CHARLIE FRENCH INITIATIVE

Lending a Helping Hand

We are delighted on behalf of the Denis Jacobs Youth Cricket Trust in partnering with Charlie French to offer 10 local cricket clubs a one off experience of having a cricket bat personally handmade and awarded to a youth cricketer who makes a significant achievement during the cricket season.

ESHER CRICKET CLUB - CHARLIE FRENCH INITIATIVE 2017

Our Work In Action

The bat was awarded to Alex Chambers U10 at the YC presentation lunch.

Alex joined Esher CC last winter from Epsom CC. He attended the winter coaching programme and his all-round game improved well. He's worked hard on his batting technique and is a fine fast / medium bowler. Alex was the first U10 to score a 50 for Esher last season and was a vital part of a successful double cup winning team. Alex also gained representative honours, being selected to play in most of Surrey's U10 summer matches, where he also scored a 50. With his dedication and love of the game, I'm sure he will continue to develop into a very fine cricketer.

AVORIANS CRICKET CLUB - CHARLIE FRENCH INITIATIVE 2017

Our Work In Action

Winner – Ollie Hoskins, Under 14’s

Steve Umpelby – Academy Director writes:

“Ollie has shown this season not only an excellent technique behind the stumps and batting but also a great capacity for reading the situation and playing accordingly, which has helped his team on a number of occasions. He always plays with a positive attitude, competitively, whilst encouraging those around him and this makes him a well-liked and respected member of the teams he plays for.”

WHITELY VILLAGE CRICKET CLUB – CHARLIE FRENCH INITIATIVE 2017

Our Work In Action

"To the Trustees of DJYCT, my son Daniel Horsey was fortunate enough to have been awarded the Significant Achievement Award 2017 at Whitley Village CC which includes a Charlie French Bat Making Experience funded, we understand, by the Denis Jacobs Youth Cricket Trust. I just wanted to write to say thank you to all concerned with the Trust this is a fabulous prize to receive and one that Daniel is very proud of and excited about. We have yet to book in Daniel's 'experience' but aim to do it early in the New Year so he can use his new bat to good effect next

season. Thank you again for your generosity and for helping to promote youth cricket; Daniel and his older brother get great enjoyment from playing the game and both are progressing well in their development. Very best wishes Ashley Horsey"

Billy Shambler, Colts Chairman, Whitely Village CC writes:

“Dan Horsey is presented this award for his exceptional talent and his commitment throughout the year. I have only managed to see him bowl once this year, but he bowled the most incredible ball I have ever seen, and from what I have heard he has been doing this all season. I hope this incredible young man’s talent continues to be recognised. Keep up the good work”.

SANDERSTEAD CRICKET CLUB – CHARLIE FRENCH INITIATIVE 2017

Our Work In Action

We decided to award the bat initiative to Zara Chaudrhi. Zara is a female cricketer playing in our under 10 boys team. As a leg spin bowler she has this season been chosen to represent the county at her age group and is developing all the time. We have decided to award Zara the bat initiative for her positive approach to the game, she plays with a smile on her face at all times, steps in to help her older brother's team at late notice and assists with the coaching of our new all girls under 8 team, acting as a role model to these younger girls.

Zara, we felt, as a female cricketer of Asian descent, fitted the profile of recipient the Trust advocates and we hope meets with your approval.

We hope to award her with the bat voucher next Friday, 8th September, at our Junior Presentation Evening. We will circulate the flyers with regards to the Trust and publicise your good work.
